There is fixing to be a childrens movie coming out this Holiday season called "The Golden Compass" starring Nicole Kidman. I suggest you click on the link below and read before you take your child to see this. The devil comes in disguises and he is trying to fool parents and children with this movie. Just please click and read. I will not be taking my child to see it nor will I let my children read the books.

It is hard to believe Nicole Kidman would do a movie like this. I wonder if it truly is against God. People use to believe that C.S. Lewis's books were anti-christian but they are the exact opposite. If it really is what Snopes says then that is terrible!
But of course nothing is anti-christian when it involves the Devil. The Devil is still apart of the christian beliefs. It would be more like anit-God and more about the people who worship the Devil.
Interesting, thanks for sharing.
1Thanks mom ... I just got this from MY mom and was going to share it, as well.
2I have to disagree with you there, Musiclvr ... you can be anti-Christian and not be anti-God. The Bible tells us that even the demons from Hell will name the names of God and speak of him to deceive us ... but we can tell if a Spirit is righteous by the willingness to Praise Jesus. (Christian means Christ-like.) So, as for me and mine, we'll boycott this movie.
Whatever movie company is putting this movie out will recieve a lot of controversy...shame on that company.
3Amen and well said Schaianne. I will be boycotting as well. Musiclvr I was shocked as well that Nicole Kidman would do a film like this. I will no longer support her as an actress as well. Snopes is pretty good about their investigation into things. It is snopes that I always go to first before I forward emails and want to know something.
4Even though I do not like what the movie is about, I can not say that I will not support Nicole as an actress anymore. I mean what about all those actors and actresses you play murderers and such...that is against the christian belief.....it is just acting. Maybe if the movie was not disguised as a kid movie I would feel different and not support Nicole anymore. IDK. It is such a hard thing to deal with.....
5I don't have kids myself, but I often take my nieces and nephews to the movies so thanks for the tip. I think there are a lot of movies they market for kids that are just not appropriate. Makes me mad.
6I don't agree w/ the movie however I will still watch a Nicole Kidman film. I'm not anti-god however I'm not a believer in the Christian faith. However from what I read this book series should not be sold to children; It's wrong for their age. If he wants to rant than write a book for adults, leave the children out of this. I don't think the movie is too wrong since they made it mild and I don't think that 10ys olds will pick-up on the woven message - I am against the books since that's where the real message is being told.
7oh wow--i have lost a lot of respect for her. well, she was married to tom cruise so she was probably into that scientology cult but still. that is crazy!
Make up - $60.00
8Dress - $50.00
Boob Job - $6,000
Forgetting to tuck in your balls..........Priceless!!!!
I also do not have kids. This is very interesting however. I am a Christian but not a huge religious person. I would probably have no problem watching it myself but I'm sure I wouldn't allow children to see it.
9I read the Golden Compass. While the author’s clearly not a fan of organized religion, this link oversimplifies his views. What I find more upsetting, though, is that it acts like the film is a conspiracy to get people to read an anti-religious book. Pullman’s books were popular before, that’s *why* they’re being made into a film. I’d also point out that scripts often differ radically from the book- and Nicole Kidman signed on for the script. I’d wait for the reviews before judging her.
I agree though, that there is a lot of inappropriate content in kids films these days. I thought Happy Feet had too much innuendo in it for kids, but I think most people thought it was fine. It’s a hard line, I guess.
Here's the Catholic Answer Forum's FAQ on the book. They're not fans either, but it provides more context: http://forums.catholic.com/showthread.php?t=192123
10Thanks mominator. I will not be taking my kid's to see this movie.
11I watched something about this in the news this morning. I heard that the author is an atheist but that the movie isn't promoting atheism. That the hope is that the movie would promote his books and therefore children will be wanting it, like the Harry Potter books. So therefore his atheistic views will spill over in the books to children. I will not be taking my children to see this movie or buy the books. I also am one of the few Christian believers who do not want my children reading Harry Potter or watching the movies either. As mominator says, the devil comes in many disguises. One of the things he does best is deceive.
12Thanks for the information.
13I got this via email. I'm glad we are being informed. Thanks.
14Tamora Pierce, the best-selling Y.A. fantasy author made a very critical post to her personal site a couple days ago concerning these criticisms of the book and the film that she called “The Legions of Darkness Are Arming.”
http://tammy212.livejournal.com/25993.html
She called Christian children whose parents don’t want them to see the film “their little robots” and ridiculed the parents for being “scared they might be wrong” about their religious beliefs. http://tammy212.livejournal.com/25993.html
She's entitled to her own opinion, but why does she have to make fun of those of us who want to screen what our kids read and see from a religious perspective?
I'm really insulted about this and I don't think my kids will be reading her books, either, anytime soon.
15Thanks busy mom. You can tell Tamora is a fantasy author is all I will say.
